About the New England Federation of Humane Societies

Established in 1945, the New England Federation of Humane Societies (NEFHS) is a non-profit federation composed of organizations and individuals committed to the welfare and protection of animals. As the representative body for New England’s humane community, NEFHS operates with a dedicated all-volunteer board of directors and advisory council. Our Board of Directors and Advisory Council members represent a wide variety of animal welfare organizations across New England, from large shelters to small rescues, and everything in between.

The New England Federation of Humane Societies is dedicated to supporting the advancement of animal welfare throughout the region by providing learning and networking opportunities to individuals engaged in the field.

What We Do

NEFHS is a vibrant organization that empowers animal welfare leaders from diverse organizations through education, connection, and collaboration. Our primary activities include:

• LEARN: We offer educational opportunities that keep animal welfare professionals informed about the latest trends and research. Our Annual Conference and outreach events provide practical, thought-provoking sessions to enhance your knowledge and skills.
• CONNECT: Our events serve as platforms for networking, enabling individuals and organizations to share experiences, learn from each other, and offer mutual support. By connecting with peers, we collectively strive to advance the field of animal welfare.
• COLLABORATE: Recognizing the strength in unity, NEFHS fosters collaboration among animal welfare organizations. We provide a robust network and host events that encourage cooperative efforts, helping organizations achieve more together than they could alone.

Annual Conference

Every spring, NEFHS hosts the largest animal welfare conference in New England. This prestigious event draws attendees from across the region and beyond, featuring nationally renowned speakers and diverse topics. Throughout the year, we also conduct various outreach events, ensuring continuous engagement and education within the community. In alignment with our values, all NEFHS events exclusively offer vegetarian and vegan food, respecting our commitment to animal welfare.
